WHAT IS ITERO 3D-SCANNING?

While we've had iTero 3D scanning technology in the practice for years, we recently invested in the latest iTero Element intra-oral scanner!  Dr. Newton is thrilled to offer this exciting technology so patients can enjoy all the benefits of comfortable 3D imaging and often times begin their treatment plans faster!

This technology enables us to present the patient with a 3D walk-through of how their  mouth is at the present moment and how it will be once treatment is complete.  When used in combination with an Invisalign treatment plan, patients are able to actually visualize what the results will be!  This gives them even greater confidence in their treatment plan and the care they receive at our office.  But 3D imaging isn't just used for Invisalign; this incredible diagnostic and imaging device allow us to get an incredibly accurate model of your mouth and teeth without any of the drawbacks of traditional impressions.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF ITERO 3D-SCANNING?

no Gagging anymore when taking impressions

When taking impressions of teeth, many offices will work with either alginate or polyvinylsiloxane (PVS).  Both these materials allow the orthodontic  team to take impressions of your teeth which is then used to fabricate models of your teeth.

While we still use PVS in our office for certain cases, the addition of the iTero element in our practice allows us to offer patients an alternative that is safe, highly accurate and supremely comfortable.

In a nutshell, the problem with traditional impressions is that they can sometimes get distorted in ways that aren't always obvious.  This can result in having to book further visits to get another impression.  That isn't a problem with th use of 3D scanning.  There is no chance  of having to book another visit to redo the scan as there are no failures to get high fidelity scans of the anatomy the first go.

3D Scanning entails simply using a  a pen like sensor in your mouth (known as a wand) which scans the entire area and in real time maps a digital model of your entire mouth. We are then able to use this scan to map out  your treatment plan.

The accuracy is amazing which is useful to the orthodontist, and patients like it even more because no goopy mess and no gagging!
